Breakfast at Dottie’s True Blue Café

If you’re ever near the corner of Jones and Geary in San Francisco’s when it’s time for breakfast–anywhere from 7:30 a.m. till 3 p.m.–chances are you will be amazed at your culinary enjoyment at Dottie’s.

This little establishment only hosts ten small chipped green painted wood tables and five counter stools. Be prepared to wait in line unless you’re there by 7:15, as we were.

Now, I am going to wet your appetite by giving you the day’s special menu on March 15th:

avocado, tomato, corn, scallion, jalapeño + feta frittata
blueberry cornmeal pancakes w/pure maple syrup
smoked whiskey-fennel sausage, mushroom + baby spinach scramble, grilled cornbread + potatoes
grilled eggplant, pepper +smoked provolone strata, served w/Italian sausage, roasted tomatoes and fresh fruit
sweet potato, caramelized red onion + gruyere tart, eggs any style, fresh fruit and biscuits
Louisiana hot link + eggs any style, grilled cornbread and potatoes
pulled pork, roasted onion + jack cheese scramble, flour tortillas and potatoes
smoked salmon, caper, tomato, scallion + cream cheese scramble, toast + potatoes
prosciutto, basil, roasted tomato + red pepper flake scramble, toast and potatoes
chocolate chip French toast w/toasted pecans + pure maple syrup
black bean cakes + eggs any style, grilled cornbread + potatoes topped w/sour cream + fresh salsa
lamb fennel sausage, roasted garlic, tomato, spinach + goat cheese omelet, toast + potatoes
bacon, tomato, scallion + blue cheese scramble, toast + potatoes

You might be wondering by now which special I chose. Or perhaps you’re imagining you’re in the café salivating over your own choice.

Well, folks, I did not choose any of these. I got up and asked the people at the next table if they were regulars. When they said, indeed they were, I politely asked what they were having. And they said, “We’re both having The Southwestern.” I quickly looked it over on the main menu.

Andouille sausage, mushrooms, onions, peppers + jack cheese in an open faced omelet with home fries, salsa + tortillas
That’s what I had. It was absolutely delicious!
